"Be patient and intentional with the things you do."
"Things will come, if it’s meant to happen it will happen."
"No advice can circumvent experience."
"The artist needs to enjoy it first. "
What do you get when you put an artist in a box? Not Romain Mayambi. An outgoing individual with the ability to expound his innate joy onto others, Romain is an artist for the people. His interest in the visual arts bloomed from an intrigue in the various ensembles of fashion paraded by random individuals on his college campus. The expressions of joy, morose, hubris, rebellion, prestige, and grief present in a stranger’s fit set off art in Romain’s mind. With camera in hand, he began to prowl his campus grounds in search of potential muses. It takes charisma to convince a stranger for a photo. Moreso, it takes appreciation for people to continue trying in the face of rejection. He went these lengths to give permanence to his perspective. Pairing his eye for art with benevolent admiration of others. Turning their perfunctory present into lasting memory of vibrant color. His artwork captures the subtleties of human existence in an exuberant light. A reminder that parted lips don’t define a smile. Working with models, friends, and family to gift life to his imagination, Romain began to express more control over his creative output. Curating his work by placing more of what he wanted to see in front of the camera. Coordinating his models in ways that contrast or compel a specific setting. Romain embraces all aspects of his passion, working the pasture of creative practice until rest is no longer a desire but a necessity. In exhaustion he does sometimes close his camera lens. But even then, his mind’s eye conjures forth the images he plans to shape next. His motivation stems largely from his family and those people who bring him joy equal to that of which he consistently portrays himself. Romain is an artist with a mind toward reverting our individualized society back into synergistic community. Each picture bringing one person closer to having admiration for another.
