"Make songs on beats you don't like. Try it even if you don't love it."
"Don’t let nobody tell you shit because you that nigga!"
His legend faced him at the age of twelve. Conjured by a recognition of writing talent, a love for music and the song "Superstar" by Lupe Fiasco. Joshua Kareem Burrell had a decision to make. Write a book detailing how a young protagonist became a rap star or become that protagonist. He decided to become the hero in his story, choosing to answer the inbound calling on his burner celly. Repetitively reciting songs like The Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" and Play-N-Skillz's "Freaks" soon became him crafting his own songs. In High School he and some friends, including fellow rap artist Jiffy Rockets, formed a rap group called The Rocketeers. His relationship with The Rocketeers was the start of his cultivation as a rap artist. He began making beats, writing lyrics and performing in music videos. This process was as challenging and humbling as learning to play the piano without looking at your hands. Self-education is often arduous but like other actions taken out of a need for independence it is fruitful to the soul. Despite rejection and doubt Josh developed a flow that is uniquely his, representing freedom from the rungs of standard society. The sovereign and raw energy from mostly self produced beats is laced with real knowledge of a lawless lifestyle. The culture of a city influences not only the music itself but how it's recieved by the people. As such, he has made sure to make his music with the streets in mind. The foundation of Burner Celly is stacked in Houston culture. His beat productions being where you'll find minor influences from other cities he's lived in and experienced. When it comes to his process, he subscribes to the "move the needle" philosophy, some action toward a passion on a consistent basis will eventually lead to success. With this in mind he has a goal of creating as many songs in a year as there are insects in a beehive. The more music he makes the closer he is to releasing a viral record. He strives toward doing things he has never done before, constantly pushing himself to overcome the boundaries of trepidation. A juggernaut in his pursuit of lived experience. Regarding his community, Josh believes strongly in the law of attraction. Those considered close to him are they that reciprocate his level of genuineness. He is more concerned with the contents of the book than its binding. Finding that individuals who have an understanding of who they are make the best company. His words are intentional, and his person is real. An inspiration for people to be their authentic selves despite the various box's society will try and put them in. Fuck with him and he'll do the same, otherwise miss the wave. He is going to continue creating with or without the accolades.
