"Take less advice, trust in who you are and who your parents raised you to be. Once you stop trusting yourself you start taking advice from everybody."
"The dollar takes the beauty from your art. Stop focusing on the dollar."
"You have the crown; you just have to decide to put it on. Stop being so timid to be who you are."
Marc Antony Guillory sought to see color in the murky grey of West Beaumont, Texas. Since the fifth grade he knew he wanted to create. It began as videoclips made by him and his brothers that were then gifted to his parents. Love given in the form of art, pure and innocent. The decision of displayed imagery was first attempted on the side of the screen that is seen. But satisfaction was never reached there. Preconceptions are still too apparent in the acting world, and he realized that he had a better chance of success doing the filming instead of being filmed. This also allowed him more creative agency, to bring to life his own perception of reality. He is a visual artist who works to bring definition of another to his work. The switch from acting took the form of a class that forced him to grab a camera. His instructors lack of passion left him to dash from what was seemingly not a fit for him. Wrestling and athletics became the new boon of his life. Then in college, he moved in with an artist and this interaction brought home his artistic passion. Soon, like the mirage of desert oasis to a vagabond, his aspirations as a visual artist began to fuel him. His goal is to leave a positive imprint on a generation. Art brought self-assuredness into his life as a decadent black man. As such, he wishes to help others of his community discover their connection to themselves and their own artistic passions. As a visual artist he specializes in photography and videography. His style seeks to capture multifaceted blackness. Pulling from artists such as Jordan Peele, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, and Denzel Washington. Jordan Peele inspired Marc by what he has done for the face of black film. Bringing a cringe, surreal, and inquisitive experience to the viewer. Childish Gambino for his fluidity of genre and medium. The ease at which he creates originally outside of the prejudice perspectives society tried to place on him. Marc saw himself in Gambino growing up and now sees the fruit of that insight in the way he approaches his own artistic work. Kendrick Lamar inspires him as a pure artist. The way he puts love and passion into his collaboration with other artists, DAMN. Denzel for his pride in himself as a successful black man in his field. Marc sees individuals in a light that is uniquely human. His creativity assists him in accenting that uniqueness for an audience. When he feels depleted of creative energy, he turns to sleep, others expression of their art form, and the company of likeminded peers. His mother's words stand out to him in this regard, “When you spend time with someone, notice how you feel when you are alone after.” Marc describes his relationships as a community of people with a willingness to be open minded about all things. A desire to learn from life and bring that knowledge to discussion. People who are not so cemented in their opinions that they hurt others with their perspective. His pursuit of life is one that is in constant search of meaningful experiences. The ones that cause chills, that cause you to feel a palette of emotions.
