Jabray Antonio Lockhart is a multidisciplinary artist who draws faces. To him creative expression is self-expression. Shaping and then reshaping his own image into different mediums, his art is simple and significant. Each image and sound created to touch the senses and play at remembrance of something. Like seeing a relative in the face of a stranger. Or being thrown back to a time when you were jamming to the radio on your way home. As a kid, Jabray would sketch images that came to his imagination, later designing album covers for friends in his spare time. It was self-reflection that spurred in him a need to create seriously. He wanted to see more displays of his perspective. One distinct from the flashy, manufactured image of popularity that today’s media glorifies. He believes that we gain more living authentically than we do trying to match society. Aside from working in the visual medium he also produces audio works. HSTYDRM (His Story, This Dream) is where he curates sound to set a smooth vibe reminiscent of west coast hip hop. To Jabray, the ideal day is every day. His mother and grandmother having instilled in him recognition of the value that each breath holds. Their example of hustle and drive motivating him to always do for himself and his family first. As an artist Jabray’s main goal is to continue putting out art. Trusting his originality and talent for design to take him to the heights of the individuals that inspire him. A few being Oliver “Power” Grant, Damon Dash, and Aaron Bondaroff for their ability to diversify in the face of adversity. Jabray paints with his head and not his hands, discovering himself in each medium he holds.
